The turning point goes back further than the business. My mother
raised me on her own and ran her own health and wellness
practice, and I grew up watching her scrape money together
anyway. She worked as hard as anyone. She was good at what she
did. And it was still harder for her than for the other business
owners around us — and as a kid, I couldn't understand why.
As I got older the answer became obvious. It wasn't her work. It
wasn't her services. It was that not enough of the right people
knew she existed. There was no system bringing demand to her
door. She had everything except the one thing that would have
changed it.
I didn't learn marketing as a job. I learned the cost of bad
marketing as a life — and then built the discipline to fix it.
That's the problem I've been staring at ever since: good
businesses run by good people, losing to undisciplined marketing
that sells applause instead of customers — good businesses that
run out of room before they run out of potential. ELM Tree
Marketing is the system I know she needed back then. Diagnosis
before prescription. Structure before spend. Accountable to
revenue, not impressions.
